When it comes to keeping our kids safe from bugs and germs, studies show that washing hands thoroughly with soap and warm water is the most effective method.

However, it’s not always practical or easy to find somewhere to wash your hands when you’re out and about, so that’s where having a bottle of natural hand sanitizer with you at all times really pays off.

But is Hand Sanitizer Safe for Kids?

Traditional hand sanitizers contain high amounts of alcohol. And while you may think the risk of your child accidentally ingesting that alcohol is small, you’d be surprised at the statistics.

Two months into 2020 there have already been 3,260 incidents reported in the US, concerning children aged 12 and younger.

Risks related to alcohol consumption from ingesting hand sanitizer include confusion, vomiting and drowsiness, and even respiratory problems.

Ingestion risks aside, alcohol is also incredibly drying for hands and the regular use of hand sanitizer has been linked to antibacterial resistance.
